PG CONFERENCE 2021
CONFLICT, REBELLION AND POPULAR PROTEST
Tuesday 27th July 2021

Our right to peacefully protest and the expression of freedom of speech are being widely debated across the globe, as events take place which challenge our understanding of those principles. How has our access to, or exclusion from, these basic freedoms affected our cultural consciousness? To what extent has challenge and dissent shaped our histories and languages? How have social mechanisms of control and suppression been overcome or succumbed to? Can we consider cultural and linguistic shifts as integral to identity formation and how have these events impacted our perceptions, interpretations and portrayals of the past? And what can we contribute as researchers in our own fields to these debates?
